On Saturday, September 16, 2023, an open lecture for the public, “Palliative Care for Cancer Patients and Families,” was held jointly with the National Hospital Organization Okinawa Hospital (Ganeko, Ginowan City: Hospital Director Dr. Isoko Owan).

It was the first time in four years that the lecture was held, as it had not been held for the past three years due to Covid-19. Twenty-eight people attended the lecture despite the weekend.

The lecture covered topics such as what is palliative care, cancer pain treatment, cancer and mental health care, diet and nutrition during cancer treatment, the palliative care team at Okinawa Hospital, and the introduction of the palliative care ward

Participants asked questions about how to make meals using familiar tastes (kachuyu) and about the psychological burden of cancer patients’ families and how to cope with it.
